About WDP

Our History

Westminster Drug Project is a registered charity which began treatment in 1990. Our core function has been to reduce the stress and suffering which may be caused by illicit drug use.

WDP aims to reduce the social exclusion of drug users and minimise the harm that they may cause to themselves and the wider community. We work towards achieving a society which is well informed about drug issues and where individuals with drug related problems receive the care and support they need without fear of discrimination or stigmatisation.

For the first ten years WDP predominantly served the residents of Westminster and Kensington & Chelsea from a service based in the Harrow Road. These areas were among the first in Britain to have widespread illicit drug use.

We have always looked to develop innovative ways to make contact with drug users and this continued on to the present day.

The last five years has seen a massive expansion. We now provide services to thousands of clients in over twelve London boroughs and some of the bordering counties to London. We currently employ over 250 staff that come from a wide range of backgrounds which creates a vibrant, exciting and diverse environment.

Our reputation is based on our ability to deliver services to drug users by being pragmatic and flexible in the way we carry out our business. We aim to model a solution focused approach in everything we do.

We now deliver the full range of services from harm reduction mobile vans on the street, open access in the community and the criminal justice system, through to structured day programmes and abstinent care through our merger with the Core Trust.

Quality Guaranteed

In July 2009, our Information and Performance division was accredited with ISO 9001. The ISO quality stamp of approval confirms that our information management standards are of the highest international quality. The ISO programme will now expand and help us to ensure our service users continue to get the help they most need from our staff.

Supplier Accreditation

WDP is registered with Accredit, the Supplier Registration Service. This means that WDP has achieved the Select Accredit Standard for public and private sector procurement, ensuring it the highest quality standard of procurement services.

Health and Safety Accreditation

WDP has been awarded with the Contractors Health and Safety Assessment Scheme (CHAS) accreditation. This certifies that the organisation has demonstrated compliance with and sound management of current basic health and safety legislation in the workplace.
