WDP in the Community

WDP endeavours to reach out to the communities that we serve. We want to make sure that we engage with all sectors of the community and to do this we often attend and organise events.

Below are some examples of events we have organised/attended.

WDP in the Community

Black History Month

Black History Month

WDP organised an event in celebration of the Black History Month. We invited members of the local community to our Harrow Road project. There were a range of activities such as traditional African dancing, henna, poetry readings and well as a range of authentic Caribbean, Arabic and African foods. The event was a great success, bringing members of the community together and raising the awareness of WDP, diversity and drugs in the local area.

Peer Education in Wandsworth

Part of our community involvement efforts is delivered through drugs education.

Our Wandsworth project runs an eight-week Peer Education Programme on drugs awareness. This forms part of our programme on community involvement which is aimed at supporting local community members to understand the issues associated with drug use, as well as a providing platform for members of the community wishing to pursue a career in the drugs field.

Wandsworth Peer Education

Thirty members completed the course last year and the certificates were awarded by Professor Salman Rawaf, Director of Public Health at Wandsworth PCT (Primary Care Trust) and Richard Wiles (Wandsworth DAAT)

In August 2008, the course will be OCN level 2 accredited.

This programme is ongoing. If you'd like to find out more about the Peer Education Programme then please contact either Titania May or Jose Martin (Community Outreach Practitioners) on: 020 8875 4400
