Day programmes
What are Day Programmes?
Day programmes offer the opportunity for individuals to explore their drug and alcohol use within a structured environment. WDP’s Day programmes provide structured non-residential support that lasts usually for 12 weeks or more, typically running from Monday to Friday. Day programmes are a good way for someone to address drug and alcohol issues and still maintain other areas of their life like relationships with their children, education and even paid employment. Service users who are engaged in a day programme have the opportunity to develop new skills, to learn alongside peers through group work and social activities, build new support networks and increase individual confidence level.
Most boroughs & counties will have drug & alcohol structured day programmes or they will have links with day programmes delivered by other agencies. All WDP service users who want to engage in a structured day programme will have their needs assessed and if they and the assessor feel they are ready to commit to a structured programme then a referral will be made. If a client is resident of a borough where WDP doesn’t deliver a Day programme service, WDP staff will be able to advise the individual on how to access these services. Some Day programmes require Community Care funding and WDP can also advise service users on how to access this type of funding.
Where WDP provides Day Programmes
- Haringey: WDP Haringey runs a structured day programme which consists of a weekly timetable of activities that includes group work, key work and drug testing. The programme is for individuals referred from the Drug Interventions Programme (criminal justice service) but it is also open to people who wish to attend voluntarily and may not be involved in the criminal justice service.
- Westminster North: North Westminster Drug and Alcohol Service run a day programme for any North Westminster resident who is ready to commit to structured treatment and who would benefit from a programme of group work and social activities. This is a non-abstinent programme; all we ask is that the individual is drug free or at least stable on the days they attend the programme.
- The Core Trust: the CoreTrust in Marylebone in London offers a community care funded or privately funded abstinence-based day programme. The Core Trust’s programme blends modern psychology with complementary therapies. They provide a range of services in a non-residential setting, supporting people while they focus on tackling their alcohol or drug use.
