NTA Eastern Recovery Month
June 2012
Throughout the month of June, WDP is celebrating the NTA Eastern ‘Recovery Month’ across all of its services.
For the last three years, the NTA (the National Treatment Agency for Substance Misuse) has been promoting Recovery Month across the east of England by encouraging treatment services, community groups and prisons to throw open their doors in order to:
- Celebrate recovery, so that local communities can see first-hand the benefits and opportunities that freedom from addiction can bring.
- Build on a network of 'recovery champions,' who champion a lifestyle free from dependence and help engage the wider community to understand enough about addiction to act.
The month is a great opportunity to celebrate recovery and everyone can get involved by hosting an event or wearing a purple ribbon which is the recovery month symbol. The NTA will also be hosting an awards ceremony in September to honour individuals who have made an outstanding contribution to recovery locally, as well as people's favourite events.

WDP is celebrating Recovery Month across all of its services throughout the month of June:
20 June: Recovery BBQ and open day at WDP Croydon
Service users and staff are celebrating recovery with a BBQ in the garden of WDP Croydon.
23 June: Tottenham Carnival
WDP Harringey is holding a ‘Celebrating Recovery’ stall at the fair and will encourage members of the public to sign up for the Recovery walk in Brighton.
26 & 27 June: Essex Inside Out Recovery Café
at HMP Chelmsford.
27 June: WDP Brent 'Celebrate Recovery' afternoon
WDP Brent is holding a ‘Celebrate Recovery’ open afternoon for service users and partners. The event will feature group discussion around ‘What recovery means to you?’ as well as talks on ‘Recovery’, ‘Fellowship’ and ‘Mindfulness’. There will also be a yoga and relaxation class as well as some live music.
27 June: Recovery Picnic at WDP Enfield
Our Enfield service users, staff and partners are having a picnic to celebrate recovery. Read about what happened at the event here.
27 June: Essex Open Road & EYPDAS Olympic themed heptathlon
The Inside Out team and service users are taking part in the heptathlon. The day includes workshops for jobs and career advice, arts and crafts, healthy eating, medical MOT, blood pressure checks, exercise groups and more. Medals will be awarded to those who complete all events.
28 June: WDP Bedfordshire
There will be a lunch in Dunstable to celebrate recovery and promote drug and alcohol services in the area. Alongside the lunch will be a recovery competition - individuals will be asked to write down their thoughts on recovery. The winning entry will be chosen by a local volunteer and displayed in WDP services across the country.
29 June: WDP Essex Inside Out Recovery BBQ
Hear inspirational guest speakers and celebrate all things ‘Recovery.’
29 June: WDP Harrow Recovery Brunch
Current and former service users celebrate recovery with a brunch.
29 June: WDP Bedfordshire
WDP Bedfordshire will be hosting another recovery lunch and recovery competition in its Bedford service.
30 June: WDP Essex at Colchester Carnival
Essex staff and service user are taking part in the Colchester carnival featuring the SOS bus.
June: WDP Waltham Forest Recovery Wall
WDP Waltham Forest set up a Recovery Wall for clients to add pictures and stories to. This is happening throughout June.
