Information about the service
The North Westminster Drug and Alcohol Service (NWDAS) offers individuals and their families who are affected by drug and alcohol problems a free and confidential service from its bases at Harrow Road.
This new integrated service is delivered by WDP in partnership with Central North West London NHS Foundation Trust (CNWL) and Foundation66. The team includes doctors, nurses, substance misuse workers, psychologists, psychiatrists, mental health specialists, social workers, family workers/therapists and complementary health therapists as well as volunteers and peer advocates.
Services available at the North Westminster Drug & Alcohol Service:
The first point of contact is the main centre based at 474 Harrow Road. Services include:
- Outreach
- Criminal Justice Engagement service
- Information, advice and support
- Screening and assessment
- Needle exchange and harm reduction services
- Drop-in service
- Substitute prescribing
- One to one key-working
- Structured Day Programme
- Low Threshold Group Work
- Complementary therapies
- Access to community and in patient detox and rehab services
- Legal advice, provided by Release as a satellite service
- Education, training and employment support (including IT training)
There is also a Structured Intervention Centre where people are referred for services following completion of treatment and once they’ve become stable or abstinent. Services delivered here include:
- Counselling
- Families’ and carers’ support
- Psychology Service
- Mutual Aid Groups such as AA, NA and Families Anonymous
- Support Groups
- Community Re-Integration
- Education, training and employment support (including IT training)
How to access the service
Who is the service for?
The service is for Westminster residents aged 18 or over who live north of Oxford Street. We also support people affected by a loved one's substance misuse.
How can I be referred to NWDAS?
- Any professional like a doctor or social worker can also make the referral on behalf of the individual who seeks advice and help.
- If you would like to refer yourself without going through a GP, social worker or other professional, please complete the online form and someone from NWDAS will be in touch.
How can I make an appointment?
You can come in person between 1.30pm and 5.30pm Monday to Friday or phone the main centre to book an appointment. The service opening hours are:
- Monday - Friday 9am-9pm (appointments and Needle Exchange only after 6pm)
- Monday 6.30pm-8.30pm Internet Café (including complementary Therapy)
- Saturday 11am – 5pm (appointments and Needle Exchange)
- Saturday 2-4pm Internet Café (including Complementary Therapy)
Other services in the borough
- Residents aged 18 or over from the south of Westminster borough can access the South Westminster Drug and Alcohol Service which is provided by Turning Point.
- Anyone under 18 who would like support for their drug or alcohol use should contact South Westminster Drug and Alcohol Service provided by Turning Point on 0207 233 3553.
